The Linden Method · Since 1996
The complete agoraphobia recovery program addressing the biological root cause — not gradual exposure exercises. Reclaim every place, every situation, every experience that anxiety has taken from you.
Used by over 650,000 people across 50+ countries
Understanding your experience
The fear isn't imaginary. The physical sensations are real. The way it shapes your days — what you avoid, what you plan around, what you've quietly given up — that's all real too. And if you've already tried to address it and found the results disappointing, you're not alone. Most people try several approaches before finding something that actually works.
What we want you to know, before anything else: Agoraphobia is not a permanent condition. It has a biological mechanism — and that mechanism can be reset. That's not marketing language. It's what 650,000 recoveries across 50 countries, over 30 years, have consistently demonstrated.
What we address
The program addresses every presentation of agoraphobia, from mild restriction to severe housebound states.
This program addresses all anxiety conditions simultaneously — because every anxiety disorder shares the same biological mechanism.

A gentle explanation
If you've tried graduated exposure therapy, CBT, or medication and remain restricted — this explains why.
When exposure exercises are attempted before the underlying alarm mechanism has settled, they create distressing experiences that strengthen the association between places and fear — making agoraphobia worse, not better.
Having a companion, carrying medication, mapping exits — these safety strategies maintain the belief that the feared situation is genuinely dangerous, keeping the alarm in its over-alert state indefinitely.
Anti-anxiety medication can reduce the intensity of fear in avoided situations — but it doesn't address why those situations trigger the alarm. The world stays small while the medication is active.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works with the belief that feared places are dangerous — but the agoraphobia alarm fires regardless of what the person consciously believes. It is a biological signal, not a rational conclusion, and it does not respond to rational challenge.
Emotional Freedom Technique applies tapping to surface-level responses — it does not address the neurological alarm mechanism that makes avoided situations feel threatening. The biological alarm threshold remains unchanged after tapping.
EMDR processes the emotional distress attached to a specific frightening experience — it is not designed to recalibrate the ongoing alarm pattern across many situations. Agoraphobia is maintained by a biological alarm state, not by attachment to a single memory.
Hypnotherapy addresses conscious associations with avoided places — it does not recalibrate the biological alarm that generates avoidance. The alarm mechanism remains active and continues generating the agoraphobia regardless of what has been suggested at the conscious level.
The Linden Method approach
Agoraphobia develops when the brain's alarm centre associates certain places or situations with the sensation of panic or high anxiety. The fear is not of the places themselves — it is of the fear response occurring there. This is a learned biological association, and it can be resolved.
When the underlying alarm mechanism resets — when the brain's arousal level returns to normal — the feared situations lose their power naturally. You don't need to 'force' yourself back into the world. The desire to be there returns on its own.
The Linden Method was developed by Charles Linden following his own complete recovery from severe anxiety disorder. It provides the specific tools to reset the anxiety mechanism — without CBT, without medication, and without fighting your symptoms.
The goal is not 'managed agoraphobia' with a 'safe zone.' It is a life with no zones at all — which is what hundreds of thousands of people have already achieved.
